SOBA Places First at 2014 SCAA Winter Championship-Congratulations!!

CONGRATULATIONS on a fantastic Winter Championship Meet!

SOBA earned the most points at Saturday’s Winter Championship Meet, coming in first in our division and winning the entire meet. Whew, that was close – we bested the ZAP team by just 66 points. That just goes to show you how important each and every individual swim and relay is! We were so thrilled to share that big trophy with everyone on SOBA!

Almost every swimmer who participated Saturday scored points for the team – this was truly a TEAM EFFORT!
86% of you had at least one personal best time at Winter Champs – WOW!!
    26% had one best time
43% had two best times, and
18% had best time in ALL THREE EVENTS – that is FANTASTIC – so proud of you, swimmers!

Most Time Dropped Chance Barber  30.83 total
He gets to take the trophy home for the entire winter break. Way to go Chance! Close runners-up are Nina V with a total drop of 25.98; Aidan V with 21.87; Lucas P with 21.45; Jameson T with 18.21; Tony D with 17.04

High point earners – TWO-Way Tie!!
Gavin Pierce and Kent Zeballos Each with 140 Points

Each of these teammates earned 1st place in two relays (2 x 42 points) on the winning B 11-12 relays. Also Gavin 1st, 2nd and 5th in gold div for his indiv events; and Kent 1st, 3rd, and 4th  in gold div for his indiv events. Congratulations Gavin and Kent! Each of you gets to take the trophy home one night this week. Close runners-up are: Kevin Z 137 points; Jude and Lexi 135 points; Cade 134 points.

The Big Trophy
After our ‘most time dropped’ achievers and our high point earners have had their time with the trophy, each swimmer will have the opportunity to take it home for a few days at a time. We’ll go in order of most time dropped (i.e. ‘best’ of the personal best times)

New Team Records
We had 2 new team records set at Sunday’s Summer Champs meet. Congratulations to:

New Red/Blue/JO Club Members:
The Red, Blue and JO Club represent the different ‘Time Standards’ by age groups outlined by Southern California Swimming. These represent the ‘top’ level of swimming in our region, with the Spring Junior Olympic (JO) being the toughest category, followed by Summer JO, then Blue Times, then Red. Coach Dede has created recognition stars for each level, and she tracks the progress (thank you Coach Dede!). Congratulations to NEW members of…
-The Red Club: David B’Llamas (25 and 50 Fr), Max Janicek (Br), Krista C (Bk), and Sergio M (50 Fr). Added events: Jordan B, Alyssa B, Brian C, Isabelle C, Tony D, Daniel G, Josh H, Ashley L, Alex M, Jordan P, Nick R.
-The Blue Club: Michael Maffucci (25 Fr). Added events: Cade B, Ina G, Gavin P

-Summer JO:  Jasmine Wu (50 Fr) and Riley Pierce (50 Br and 50 Fr) – Riley is the ONLY SOBA 9 year old to qualify for JO in the 10&U age group – wow!. Added: Kevin Z
  Summer JO Relays:
9-10 Girls Medley: Jaylin H, Lauren C, Allison C, Ina G (Allison will be too old to compete)
  11-12 Boys Medley: Ryan R., Kent Z., Danny G., Gavin P.

Relays at Champs
We don’t get to do relays often, so it’s really special when we have so many relay teams at champs meets! This year, we had a relay entered in every gender and age group. Relays are important to the team, because they earn DOUBLE points. Medals are awarded for teams who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd BUT points are awarded to all teams who place 1st thru 6th
